Active Learning Classroom Installation

顶级国产视频 will install an active learning classroom through the Active Learning Center (ALC) program, funded by a grant from Steelcase Education. By summer, Room 206 in the John Brooks Williams Natural Science Center鈥揘orth will feature adjustable wheeled chairs and desks to foster collaboration and small group work.

Benefits of Active Learning Classrooms

According to Steelcase research, active learning classrooms contribute to higher engagement, better grades, increased motivation, and more creativity compared to traditional row-by-row seating. Tricia Shepherd, professor and Chair of the Chemistry department, is excited about the flexibility the new classroom will offer, allowing students to easily form groups and collaborate effectively.

Support for POGIL Teaching Method

The new chemistry classroom will also support the POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) teaching method, which emphasizes problem solving over memorization. Flexible classroom furniture will encourage student teamwork and collaboration, essential for the POGIL approach.

Steelcase Education's Commitment

Craig Wilson, director of Market Development at Steelcase Education, highlights that St. Edward鈥檚 was chosen for its commitment to progressive instruction and active learning strategies. The new flexible learning space will allow professors and students to explore enhanced engagement and collaboration capabilities.

Recognition and Alignment with Steelcase

Gary A. Morris, dean of Natural Sciences and professor of Physics, expressed honor in receiving the Active Learning Center grant. He noted that the Steelcase approach to education, which emphasizes engaged, active learning, aligns with St. Edward鈥檚 educational philosophy and positively impacts student learning outcomes.
