5 Reasons Why You Should Live on Campus

By Mariah Olivarez

At St. Edward鈥檚, we want to make your transition as seamless as possible. The hilltop is where you can cultivate a lifestyle full of community and connections; and you can turn the time you save calculating your morning routine into focusing on your holistic academic experience. Students who live on campus are most likely to excel in many aspects.

Here are five reasons why you should live on campus:

1. Your Mental Health Matters

College life can be stressful, but it doesn鈥檛 have to be! At St. Edward鈥檚, you鈥檒l be able to prioritize your well-being through easy access to our Health and Counseling Center and Recreational and Wellness Center (RAC) for your mental and physical health needs. The RAC offers programs through the LiveWell SEU initiative such as yoga and fitness classes, a wellness lounge, counselor support, and other amenities not far from your residence hall.

2. You Can Thrive Academically

Students who live on campus are more likely to graduate on time and maintain a higher GPA鈥攁nd it鈥檚 easy to see why. By living on campus you can build stronger communities with your peers and professors, and gain easier access to support services like office hours, tutoring sessions, a writing center, and academic enrichment activities.

3. A Vibrant Community

It鈥檚 not a clich茅 to say that college is a time to find yourself, our campus community is the perfect place to do just that. You鈥檒l make lifelong friends with your dorm neighbors, connect with peers of similar interests through clubs and organizations and learn about cultures from all over the world. Drop by our weekly campus socials for fellowship and free food, or get active through our intramural sports leagues!

4. Your Safety Comes First

Living on campus provides peace of mind. Your residence hall staff and campus police can be reached at any time, and all residence halls have security-controlled entry. The student-led organization, SafeWalk SEU, can offer you a quick ride back to your dorm or apartment after a late-night study session. Campus Safety is readily available with emergency blue light boxes around campus and the Topper Safe app which allows you easy access to UPD and other safety resources.

5. Unbeatable Convenient Location

Start your day off with a hearty meal from one of the dining halls located near your residence hall. If you have some time to spare in between classes, charge up at an on-campus coffee shop. And when it鈥檚 time to unwind after classes, drop by the RAC for a spin class! The benefits of living at SEU go beyond campus amenities, and also include our convenient location in the heart of the city. Our stop on the local bus route means a swim at Barton Springs or a picnic at Zilker Park is just a short ride away. There鈥檚 a reason so many St. Edward鈥檚 alumni consider the hilltop their home. Find yourself in the thriving city of Austin by building a close-knit community at a scenic haven in the center of it all.
